The evening opened with a Welcome to Country delivered by Johnathan Ford of Kambarang Services, followed by a brief address from GIG Chair and Westgold Resources Managing Director Wayne Bramwell, who acknowledged the sector’s record-breaking year and the Group’s ongoing commitment to education, engagement, and industry leadership.
“At GIG, we’re proud to connect people to the gold industry — to showcase its value and invest in its future,” said Mr. Bramwell. “From education programs in schools to employment pathways that support future careers, GIG is helping shape a long-term, sustainable future for gold in Australia.”
Guests enjoyed a lively panel discussion hosted by Claire Walker, featuring West Coast Fever athletes Jess Anstiss, Alice Teague-Neeld, Sunday Aryang, Fran Williams, Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard and Kadie-Ann Dehaney, who shared insights into teamwork, resilience, and their experiences visiting mine sites through GIG’s partnership with Netball WA.
The Honourable David Michael MLA, WA’s Minister for Mines and Petroleum, delivered a keynote address highlighting the government’s continued support for the gold sector. He then joined Mr. Bramwell on stage for a Q&A session, covering topics including regional development, environmental sustainability, and the importance of inspiring the next generation to pursue careers in mining.
“In calendar year 2024, Western Australia’s gold industry delivered an all-time high sales value of 24 billion dollars.” The Minister went on to commend the National Gold Education Program saying, “There is no more powerful tool than education and I applaud the Gold Industry Group for inspiring the next wave of gold industry participants.”
